When is Restoring Our Cities?
September 9, 2024
Where does the event take place?
The ride will take place at Johnson Park (click this link for a map) in Walker, MI, which is west of Grand Rapids. The park is a natural area on the Grand River with play fields, trails, picnic shelters and fishing.
Where do I check in on ride day?
Restoring Our Cities volunteers and staff will be manning a booth at the pavilion at the Johnson Park, which is located at 4049 Butterworth SW Walker, MI.
When does registration open?
Registration has opened. Go to the registration tab today and sign up!
How early/how late can I start riding?
We STRONGLY recommend that faster, more serious cyclists, start as close to 8:00 a.m. as possible. Those riding shorter routes (under 30 miles) may start later in the morning. We ask all riders to start no later than 11:00 a.m. The course closes at 4:00 p.m. and all SAG support and signage will be pulled.
Do you limit registrations?
Restoring Our Cities is a self-started tour (not a race). Typically, we do not limit our registrants. Should demand exceed the capacity of the routes require us to limit the field, we will announce it.
Can I give my registration to someone else?
Yes. We allow for one name change per registration. We require the new rider to adhere to the signed rider agreement. Contact [email protected] to notify us of the change.
What should I expect when I check in?
At check-in, you can expect grins and high fives. We will also have snacks and plenty of water to pick up or consume. There will be maps and/or tip sheets for the course of your choosing. If you requested a T-shirt when you registered, you can pick that up as well. If you did not sign the online waiver form when you registered, we will ask you to sign one before starting out.
What are the routes?
Check out the Routes & Rides page for the maps and links.
I need to cancel my registration. Can I get a refund?
Restoring Our Cities is a fundraiser for multiple neighborhood connectors, the community builders that create strong neighborhoods and thriving cities. In return, your registration fees become donations for these connectors and their 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. These groups use registrations to buy the T-shirts, food and more that are used on the day of the event. So, no refunds. You can transfer your registration to someone else, however. Please email [email protected] if you plan to do so.
What is there to eat & drink?
Each rest stop will provide a selection of [mostly] pre-packaged, individually-wrapped food items. This is a change from previous years, where our volunteers spent their days slinging homemade PB&Js.
I’ve got a dietary restriction (gluten, dairy, etc.). will you have food for me?
Our team of volunteers and donors do their best to provide options for all riders. That being said, if you have a severe allergy, we recommend bringing your own food on the ride.
What if someone I’m with has a flat tire, crash, or other incident?
If it’s a flat tire or other mechanical issue that you don’t have the supplies or know-how to fix, please note your location and then call or text the number on the tip sheet you receive. We’ll dispatch the nearest SAG vehicle to transport you to the pavilion where we can help fix your bike. If it’s an injury, assess the situation. If it’s an emergency, dial 911 immediately. If it’s less severe, call the number on your tip sheet and let’s talk about how best to help you. There will be self-serve first-aid kits available.
